I’ve finally caught up on the madness down in Krat. Let’s rank all of the bosses of Lies of P from easiest, to hardest. And all of this is doing the bosses solo (with no specter).
Lies of P Bosses Ranked Easiest to Hardest
34. Parade Master
Difficulty – 2/10
It’s only fitting that the first boss is the easiest. The Parade Master serves as a great tutorial, but really, nothing more. While the fight gets mildly more challenging on higher difficulty refights, it was over before I saw much of what the boss could do on my first battle.
33. Mad Donkey
Difficulty – 3/10
You’re going to see multiple of the simplistic human fights in a row here. Mad Donkey, as well as the few to follow, are very simple, don’t deal much damage, and can’t hold a candle to the rest of the cast. In fact, the biggest challenge is how clunky these fights feel.
32. Owl Doctor
Difficulty – 3/10
The same story applies here as Mad Donkey. It’s not particularly challenging or interesting. Just another simple human fight
31. Black Cat
Difficulty – 3/10
Are we still doing these? It’s pretty much the same thing
30. Puppet of the Future 2 & 3
Difficulty – 4/10
The second and third battle with Puppet of the Future are both quite simple. I happened to do the fight with the ballista shooting at me the entire time which moved this up slightly. Just slightly, though, as there isn’t really a risk of dying. It just takes a long time.
29. Red Fox
Difficulty – 4/10
Red Fox has a little bit more mobility than her lower human counterparts. This did catch me off guard a couple of times, but the attacks are generally very telegraphed, leading to a flurry of staggers from well-timed blocks. If you struggled with this boss, I would be surprised.
28. Door Guardian
Difficulty – 4/10
I could see how the Door Guardian could theoretically give a player trouble. He’s got lot’s of damage for sure. However, he takes so long between swings that I was able to weave in hits between combos of his own. And then he’d recover by slowly picking up his heavy arm. Attacks are heavily telegraphed, leading to easy blocks and dodges. And he’ll even fall over for a good 10 seconds, letting you wail away at him even more.
It’s one thing if this came earlier in the game, but we’re entering end game at this point. Simple one to two hit combos isn’t going to cut it!
27. Puppet of the Future
Difficulty – 5/10
While I know you can fight this guy without the poison on the field, I happened to do it with the poison there. If you take the time to go through the level and clear out the poison, this guy would potentially be the easiest in the entire game. So I’d recommend dealing with the poison before taking on this giant.
His attacks are extremely telegraphed, and despite his chunky health bar, he really doesn’t pose any offensive threat of his own.
26. Robber Weasel
Difficulty – 5/10
Robber Weasel is another human enemy, this time a little bit closer to the end game. The small axe weapon that the Weasel wields lead to his attacks being somewhat hard to read. He’s pretty jumpy too, meaning closing in on a fatal attack is going to be pretty challenging. He’s susceptible to the fire status effect, which was key to a pretty easy victory. But don’t be surprised if you start to face a bit of challenge by this point on the list.
25. Corrupted Parade Master
Difficulty – 5/10
Corrupted Parade Master might be harder than the original, but mostly only because of the status effect. If you can manage the decay bar, this one should mostly be a walk in the park. Or Parade.
24. Scrapped Watchman
Difficulty – 6/10
The second boss of Lies of P is a huge step up in challenge from the Parade Master. While the attacks are still telegraphed clearly, and the combos are not too long, there is a heavier mix-up of fury attacks and delayed damage. This is particularly deadly on a first run, when a fury attack is followed up by delayed lightning damage. This can easily catch you off guard as you greed for that extra hit.
Once you learn the basics of this fight though, it should be over relatively quickly. His grab nearly was the difference maker though!
23. Tyrannical Predator
Difficulty – 6/10
Tyrannical Predator feels like a carbon copy of the Golden Hippo from Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. So if you’re bested that beast, this one shouldn’t be much of a challenge. Although, it’s plagued with some of the same obstacles, such as a small arena, camera issues, and awkward hitboxes.
As far as the DLC goes, however, this one is a walk in the park. And we’ve seen this song and dance before. Nothing here is new.
22. Survivor
Difficulty – 6/10
Survivor is not a particularly hard human fight, but it does take place in a shockingly confined space. And, it feels like it lasts longer than you’d expect it to. I did die once here, but mostly because I hadn’t levelled up my skills yet – not expecting a fight in this random room!
21. The Atoned
Difficulty – 6/10
The Atoned has two quirks leading to a spike in difficulty. The decay status brings an instant bonus point to difficulty. The scramble to maintain your health and weapon durability is brutal. And, the delayed attacks caught me off guard quite a few times with this heavy weapon. As far as human fights go, this one has some zest.
20. White Lady
Difficulty – 6/10
White Lady brings nearly unmatched aggression to the human battles of the game. However, she makes up for this aggression by presenting almost no damage to the player. Those quick strikes can add up over time, though, so you’re going to want to be able to master block timing to make the most of the constant flurries of attacks. If you can do that and catch her on fire, this one should be done before long.
19. Mad Clown Puppet
Difficulty – 6/10
Mad Clown Puppet is scarier in concept than in practice. The run-up to the boss is shockingly long, and there is a slew of enemies thrown into the fighting arena for good measure. However, if you can access the checkpoint past the boss and clear out the enemies, this turns into a pretty simple fight. Simply master the delayed timing on his spin attack and you’ll have access to ample fatal attacks.
18. Kings Flame Fuoco
Difficulty – 7/10
After refighting this boss a few times, I would put it a few spots lower, for sure. However, this ranking is based on my first experience, and the variety of attacks that Kings Flame Fuoco can fire at you – pun intended – can be overwhelming. There are charge attacks, overhead swings, spin moves, range attacks, and unblockable, arena-wide flame releases that all combined to make my first romp a true challenge. While nothing in particular is too hard here, it feels like the arsenal attacks takes a big step from all of the bosses prior to this in the game.
17. Walker of Illusions
Difficulty – 7/10
The hardest aspect of Walker of Illusions is obviously the second phase. This is because the Walker clones itself. And in case you hadn’t heard the old adage, two is better than one, Lies of P is here to remind you. And it holds true. Now, it’s not too hard to dispatch of the second walker, but doing so while balancing the aggression of the first can lead to an untimely one-shot if you’re not careful.
16. Champion Victor
Difficulty – 7/10
I definitely saw Champion Victor giving me a hard time when I first walked through the arena and clashed blade with fist. And the first phase had me on my back foot throughout. Thankfully, though, the second phase was so similar to the first that once I got comfortable with the first phase, the second was easily defeated. In fact, this was another first try victory. And I can’t justify placing a boss any higher than 7/10 if they can be beaten on a first try.
15. Nameless Puppet
Difficulty – 7/10
I have a feeling this one might be a controversial pick, but as I beat Nameless Puppet on my first try, I again cannot rate it any higher than a 7/10 on the difficulty scale. However, upon rebattling this legend, I have discovered a flurry of nuances that make the fight even more and more awesome over time. But this isn’t a quality ranking, it’s a difficulty ranking and in that case, this boss places just above the mid-point of the list.
There are a lot of varied attacks, but they are very intuitively blocked or dodged. Combos aren’t too long or unmanageable, and I found the fight very clearly animated and predictable (in a good way).
14. Fallen Archbishop Andreus
Difficulty – 7.5/10
As stated before, decay is essentially an automatic bonus point of difficulty. That status effect can absolutely obliterate a run. It can cause you to run through all of your pulse cells just trying to recover, while the boss sits back and earns its health back. This is what made this boss take more than one try, and slightly eek out those below it on the list.
13. Eldest of the Black Rabbit Brotherhood
Difficulty – 8/10
While this fight is absolutely manageable, there’s a lot to manage! All of the different members popping out means you have to not only balance multiple enemies at the same time, but you also have to learn 4 different fight styles in one battle. It’s a lot to pick up in a battle of attrition. On my eventual victory, I really only came out on top because I was able to break the weapon of the Eldest. Once the weapon was broken from my perfect blocks, the pitiful damage opened up victory.
While the different members take turns popping out to battle you, they can be quite evasive and waste your time while your damage on the Eldest is healed up. And your fatal attack vanishes…
12. Anguished Guardian
Difficulty – 8/10
In theory, Archbishop Andreus should be much easier than this guy. While I was fighting, I actually had myself checking the health bar to make sure I was even damaging him. And, his intimidating stature and animations lead me to think that he’s much much harder than the Archbishop. But the Anguished Guardian doesn’t have decay, which brings the bosses closer together. And then, Anguished Guardian only came by after we’ve already mastered the entire base game. So on a first playthrough, I felt more than prepared to handle everything he had to throw at me.
With all of that said, though, I still struggled more than a few times with this boss. The absolute endurance test that is his health bar and deep attack pool is not something to scoff at. We’re definitely getting to the hard part of the list.
11. Simon Manus
Difficulty – 8/10
Simon Manus is one of those bosses where, when you first take him on, it feels like the fight is going to be insurmountable. There is a lot of visual chaos, especially in phase 2. And it can be extremely overwhelming. And if you are unlucky enough to experience death by disruption in this fight, you’ll be left throwing your controller across the room.
However, once you look past all of the busy and crazy animations, you’ll find phase 1 and 2 aren’t really all that different. And, the fight isn’t really all that complex. There are a few near-instant animations that require pixel-perfect blocks. But outside of that, this one is beatable with a bit of practice.
10. Eldest of the Black Rabbit Brotherhood 2
Difficulty – 8/10
I think it’s pretty easy to see why this fight ranks harder than the original. There are added status afflictions, the brotherhood attacks you all at once, and there is a souped-up final version of the eldest brother.
The only reason this one is even in the same tier as the original is because you have so many more tools and skills at your disposal at this point in the game that the fight becomes beatable. But it’s definitely a challenge you’re going to need to try a few times before finding victory.
9. Veronique
Difficulty – 8.5/10
The extreme delays from Veronique were my downfall. It was nearly impossible to achieve perfect blocking against her, and with her fire weapon, that meant catching fire a LOT.
And once you’re on fire, she will chase you down and make you beg for mercy. Fire absolutely eviscerates your health bar, and her constant onslaught of attack made it nearly impossible to recover once a run started failing. Based on tries alone, this one could be even higher on the list. I didn’t expect a human boss to give me so much trouble. But there’s on that did even more-so…
8. Two-Faced Overseer
Difficulty – 8.5/10
Obviously the main gimmick when it comes to the Two-Faced Overseer are his two “states”. He can swap between an enraged and more passive state. You’d think that the issue would be the enraged state, and well, you’d be partially correct. That phase is defeinitely harder than the passive state. But the biggest challenge for me with this fight was simply the girth of the health bar. My god, this fight took forever! It took me over 4 minutes to best this guy on my winning attempt. Let’s compare that with some other bosses in the same area. Veronique took under 2 minutes. Simon Manus took 4 minutes. The Black Rabbit Brotherhood 2 fight took 5 minutes. Wait a second, all of these are long. Except Veronique.
Well, it really did feel like this fight just went on and on, and every minor error in the enraged state leads to multiple wasted pulse cells. And you’re going to need them, as this guy never lets up!
7. Green Monster of the Swamp
Difficulty – 9/10
Decay. And that charge. Need I say more?
Ok fine, I will. This boss combines everything that I personally struggle with in Lies of P. Decay, charge attacks, delayed attacks, and constant aggression. At least the second phase takes aspects of the Scrapped Watchman to give a moment of reprieve and familiarity.
But yes, it is extremely hard. But this one is still on the manageable side of really hard. Some to come might not be…
6. Romeo, King of Puppets
Difficulty – 9/10
The hard part of Romeo, King of Puppets might not be what you expect. You’d thing the anime looking guy that ends the fight would be the source of the trouble. But once I reached phase two, this fight only took a couple of tries.
For me, the hard part is the hard-to-read attacks and animations of the first phase. I love the vibes and the character, but it feels like the attack pool depth is infinite. And so many attacks seem to push the character off. This means getting in damage, hitting a fatal attack, doing ANYTHING was so challenging! But once you learn to maximize your offensive opportunities, this guy shouldn’t bring you too much challenge.
5. Markiona, Puppeteer of Death
Difficulty – 9/10
Markiona is one of the most mechanically interesting fights of the entire game. There is so much depth and intrigue to this fight, and even elements I’ve never before seen in a soulslike. The way you must use your spidey senses to tell when she is going to utilize her puppet as a weapon is such an unexpectedly intricate mechanic. And there are so many different variations of attacks and individual moments that you must learn, mostly through trial and error. And I’m not sure it’s even possible to break her “weapon” like it is with most bosses. So just for being so mechanically dense, Markiona has to end up here. Although once you know everything she has in her bag of tricks, it’s not nearly as bad.
4. Lumacchio, Leader of the Bastards
Difficulty – 9/10
Screw. That. Umbrella.
What makes this one so INFURIATING is how it feels like it just shouldn’t be so hard. The way it makes me writhe in my skin every time I see this guy pull out his umbrella is UNREASONABLE.
In all seriousness, the umbrella is deceptively hard to track. In the case of large swords, swings and movements are clear and intentional. The side-effect of such a flippant weapon as an umbrella means it’s hard to read what he’s doing with it and what he’s going to do next.
And this is all before going into phase 2, where the REAL challenge is. Again, we have my kryptonite – decay. And we have a violently aggressive enemy in a small arena. And he heals!? There’s enough already!
3. Premetamorphic Green Hunter
Difficulty – 9.5/10
I just don’t get this boss. It feels like I could perfectly block and hit nearly everything for over 2 minutes, but one missed dodge on a multi-grab would lead to me blitzing through all of my pulse cells while desperately repairing my weapon until I died. Again and again.
I know this is supposed to be a rejigging of a boss we’ve already beaten, but something about this boss felt like it hit like a truck. Way harder than the original. Maybe I’m in the minority here…Let me know in the comments!
2. Laxasia the Complete
Difficulty – 9.5/10
When I first faced Laxasia, I could have sworn I had clicked play on the wrong game. Everything up until this point in the base game was in another universe of difficulty. The length of attack combos, the ungodly damage, the health bar – everything here was double EVERYTHING in the entirety of the base game. I was so convinced nothing could possibly match this boss until I reached number one on the list.
1. Arlecchino, the Blood Artist
Difficulty – 10/10 (obviously)
This was by far the hardest boss of the game. I will say, there is a lot of hype surrounding the difficulty of this boss, and I don’t think it was quite as hard as everyone has said.
I will say, though, that this was the hardest boss in every single category and it wasn’t particularly close. If I could, I’d give this boss an 11/10 on difficulty.
Just the single combo coming straight out of phase 2 is enough to put this boss on the top of the list. There are so many combos to learn, it feels like I have to study to keep up. And break doesn’t make it any easier, as your stamina recovery and healing take a huge hit.
Phase 2, which is the highest damage phase of anything in the game by far, is 4 minute battle alone, with a 2 minute phase 1 on top of it. Every combo feels like it lasts forever, and the fight requires you to find a balance of dodging and blocking in a way no other fight does. You really have to maximize everything about the Lies of P combat to have a chance in this one. And doing this solo is a true accomplishment!
