The Backstory

The Abyss was an album that was an attempt to relaunch my love of music. I had created 4 albums under my actual name, Dakota Doney, and failed to find any real traction.

I was hoping that with a new name and new style I would find an audience. The album is likely too unpolished to have ever really found an audience, and the mix of tracks is uneven. However, there really is something to love in nearly every song on here.

Nightwalk

The Nightwalk title track features a really fun mix of all of the genres that were inspiring me at the time. I even sneak in some vocal references to my inspirations at the time. See if you can spot them!

Own the Past

This song has an undeniable bass groove. It pretty much carries the song, but I’ve been saying for years that everybody is undervaluing a fun bass line!

The Descent

The Descent has a great structure and vibe, and the solo is probably my best I had written by that time in my music life. It’s also neat how it transitions into The Abyss.
